Recently our 6th year Biology students visited Castlecomer Discovery Park to carry out an Ecological survey as part of their Leaving Cert. course.  The survey included both qualitative and quantitative surveys of flora and fauna in a woodland habitat.  In addition, abiotic and edaphic factors such as light intensity, slope and soil pH were measured.  Students were very lucky to be instructed by an Ecologist who discussed the interactions between organisms and the adaptive features of species in a woodland ecosystem.  The day furthered students understanding of Ecology and was enjoyed by all! (even the mouse…….!).
