Leaving Certificate Applied (LCA) - 2 Year Course 

Description  
The Leaving Certificate Applied prepares young people for adult and working life and enables them to make decisions about further education and training.
Examination is carried out over the two years of the programme as well as at the end.

Work experience one day per week with local employers.
Vocational Preparation and Guidance English and Communication.

2 Specialist Courses e.g. Hotel Catering and Tourism, Construction and Manufacturing.

General Education:
Social Education
Arts Education
Irish
European Language
Leisure and Recreation

Tasks
Students complete a total of 9 tasks in the 2 years. These tasks, which are examined by the Department of Education & Science can be individual or team.

Assessment and Certification:
A maximum of 100 credits is abailable on successful completion of the programme. Two-thirds of these credits can be gained during the two years and the remaining third in the final examination.
Completion of Course Modules 40 Credits
Student Tasks 27 Credits
Final Examination 33 Credits

Three Levels of Award:
Pass 60-69 credits
Merit 70-84 credits
Distinction 85-100 credits

On successful completion of the Leaving Certificate Applied students may progress directly on to work. Fás/Cert
Post Leaving Certificate (PLC) Courses
Students who complete appropriate PLC Courses may be eligible for some third level programmes.
