The u17 soccer team created history on Thursday when they won the South Leinster league for the third year in a row. They went into the game as underdogs against a very strong CBS team who were favourites but there hardwork earned them a great victory. Tullow set up with a four five one formation to try and stop the CBS playing and it worked a treat with the Tullow lads pressing high up the pitch and giving the opposition very little time on the ball. The CBS had lots of possession at the start of the game but were forced into shooting from long range as the Tullow midfield and defence stood firm. Tullow scored with almost there first attack in the 20th minute when full back Lee Kavanagh broke up pitch and played a one two with Graham Byrne and Kavanagh smashed home from outside the box into the bottom corner giving the keeper no chance. Tullow held on for the remainder of the half mainly thanks to the outstanding work of holding midfielder Martin Cummins who stopped everything. The second half started with CBS dominating and they forced a few corners but they didn't come to anything. Midway through the second half Martin Cummins was to settle the tie when he made a stunning tackle on halfway and broke away beating two players before smashing home a stunning shot from 25 yards to give Tullow a two nil lead that they never looked like losing thanks to the solid work of Donal Smithers and Graham Byrne in the middle of the field. There was scenes of wild celebrations at the final whistle as the Tullow boys celebrated a surprise win.
