In addition students will select either French OR German and/or two subjects from:-

Prior to this selection all students will sample each of these subjects during September and October. They will then choose a language and two other subjects from the pools on offer in late October. They will commence these subjects after the October/November mid-term break.

Junior Certificate Programme

Junior cycle (lower secondary education) lies within the compulsory period of education and is usually taken by students between the ages of 12 and 15. The aims and intended outcomes of junior cycle emphasise the importance of students experiencing a broad, balanced and coherent programme of study across a wide range of curriculum areas in order to prepare them for transition to senior cycle education. This is achieved by ensuring that students encounter an educational programme that covers a number of areas of experience

Junior Certificate Schools Programme

This is a scheme catering for those junior pupils who may not be achieving to their full potential in the normal school curriculum. Places are offered to those who are potential early school leavers and those who are likely to benefit from being in small class groups. Students who are offered places are interviewed with their parents.

Leaving Certificate Programme

The Leaving Certificate is a two-year programme that aims to provide learners with a broad, balanced education while also offering them a chance to specialise towards a particular career option. Students following the programme are required to study at least five subjects, one of which must be Irish. In general, students take five or more subjects (usually seven) for examination. Subjects are normally studied at either ordinary or higher Level.

LCVP Programme

The Leaving Certificate Vocational Programme (LCVP) is an intervention designed to enhance the vocational dimension of the Leaving Certificate (established). The programme was introduced in 1994 in response to the challenge placed on Ireland’s education system by a changing work and business environment. The LCVP combines the academic strengths of the Leaving Certificate (established) with a new and dynamic focus on self–directed learning, innovation and enterprise.
