Welcome to the Tullow Community School Website

Tullow Community School was established in 1978 from the amalgamation of the Brigidine Convent Secondary School, the Patrician Brothers Secondary School and Tullow Vocational School. It aims to provide a comprehensive system of post-primary education open to all the children of the community. The school is co-educational and multi-denominational.

Announcements

1st Year Induction Programme

Monday September 1st saw a new batch of first years starting in Tullow Community School. Even though work on the new school extension is in full swing, the transition into secondary school life seems to have gone very smoothly for the majority of students. For the past number of years the school has been developing and honing its  'Induction Programme', drawing on the talents and experience of management, teaching staff and the Tullow School Completion team. The school's Meitheal students also played a significant role in the programme, having undertaken an intensive week’s training during the summer run by the Kildare and Leighlin Diocese. They will have the continued role of mentoring the 1st years throughout the school year.

The 1st years began with an assembly where they were introduced to the Principal (Mr. Paul Thornton), the Vice Principal and year head (Ms. A Ashe), their class teachers and the Meitheal team. Over the course of the day they met with their class teachers, were taken on a tour of the considerably changed school building and met with members of the school’s Care Team (consisting of Career Guidance Counsellor Tom Condon, Chaplain Eimear Fitzgerald and Tullow School Completion staff Michael Byrne and Denise Nolan). There was a little down time during the day where the students got to spend time with one another and their Meitheal leaders.

On day two, there was more time scheduled with class teachers to allow the students time to come to grips with their timetable and to go through the ‘Right First Time’ booklet produced by the school. The afternoon brought plenty of excitement with activities coordinated by the School Completion team and facilitated by the Meitheal students (Cathal Bailey, Elaine Aughney, Martin Cole, Louise Carroll, Clional Dowd, Isalbella Florio, Aine Gahan, Orla Jackman, Michael Kelly and Amy O’Toole). Well done to all involved!
