National Ploughing Championship 2019

Dear Parent/Guardians,

As you are aware the National Ploughing Championships are taking place near Fenagh on Tuesday 17th, Wednesday 18th and Thursday 19th September.  The Board of Management of the school have considered the logistics around the ploughing and it is aware of the considerable traffic disruption that will affect Tullow during that week. However, it also wishes to minimise as much as possible the disruption to classes especially for exam students.

Accordingly a contingency plan will be in place during the three days of the Championship.

On Tuesday, 17th September the school will be closed to facilitate the Gardaí in implementing their traffic plan.  It is strongly recommended that students use this day to attend the ploughing championships.

On Wednesday 18th and Thursday 19th September Tullow Community School will be open for students from 7.30 a.m.  It is advised that parents if possible, have students in school by 8.00 a.m. on these two days to avoid traffic delays.  It is recommended that cars use the road alongside the library/the river to access the school.   Some school buses will be in operation and will run early to ensure that students are here for 8.00 a.m. and the breakfast club will be in operation for all students.  School will finish at 2.40 p.m. for school traffic to be ahead of the returning ploughing traffic.

Nicky Kirwan’s bus for Myshall/Ballon will not operate for the three days

Larry Earle’s bus for Rathoe area will not operate for the three days

Glynn’s bus for Kellistown/Fighting Cocks will operate

Duffys’ two buses will operate

Sean Robert’s bus for Ardattin will operate

Charlie Ryan’s bus for Ballyconnell will operate

Also because of the considerable volume of traffic going through Tullow town during the day and at a request of the Gardaí, students will not be allowed down the town for lunch for Health and Safety reasons.  Canteen facilities will be available or students may bring their own lunch.

The Board of Management accepts that some students may be restricted in attending school during these three days as a result of the traffic issues but feels it is essential that provision is made for those students who are in a position to attend classes.

Updates regarding the contingency plan and school buses will be available on the school website and the school twitter account.
